When the Vice-king was firíl: received iñ the Ciry of Los Reyes, Pedro de Pn-et: les, a Nacive of Seville, carne to kifs bis hands, being at that time Deputy GoverJ nour for Vaca de Caftro in che Town of Guanuco: And hav_ing lived long in the ¡,,,. dies, he was highly eíl:eemed by the Vice-king for his great experience ; fo that he gave hlm ·a new Commiffion to be Deputy Governour of Guanuco, enjoyning him to get rhe People of thar City in a readinefs , · that in cafe neceffiry íhould re- quire, rhey might atan hour's warning appear with their Horfe and Arms. Pedro de Puella obeyed che Commands of the Vice-king ; and not onely put his own Ci- tizens into a poílure to march, at the firíl: Summons; but alfo retained feveral orher Souldiers , who carne from the Province of Chapapoyas in company with Gomes de Solio and Bonifa>:. , to atténd che Commands of the Vic~-king, for their march : and acc6rdingly upon his Orders difpatched by {mnimo de VillegM, a Na- tive of Burgos, Pedro de Pueltes immediarely marched away with intemion to join with him. But being come as far as Guanuco, they began to lay their heads together and conftder of che i!Iue and event of affairs , in cafe rhey íhould fubdue and over- throw Gonfalo Pi{arro and his party; and having concluded moíl: cercainly, chat in that cafe, che Vice-king would rnake ufe of his Víétory, to pur in ex~cution the new Laws withour conrroll, ro che great damage and ruine of che People; and that no man, as well Souldiers as ochers íhould be able to enjoy che fervice and vaífalage of their Indiam , which would difennable many from paying che caxes for mainrenance of che Army: they ali unanimouíly refolved to revolc unto Gon· fil io Pi farro's parcy; and fo rharched anorher way to join with hirn in fuch place where ir íhould be their forrune to meec him.
