Diego de Almagro, were bufily employed in ga~ thering, beaping and difpo!ing of the Treafure which they had found in Co<:.co, and the parts thereabouy.s, when the News carne that Don Pedro de A/varado w¡¡s arrived in Peru wirh Comqiiffion to Govern and Comrnand all thofe parts which he füo·uJd conquer ; that he was inforced with five hundred Men, moíl: of which· were Genrlemen of Noble Birth, aod o1 the flower of Spain, well moun- ted on Horfe-back, well Arrned, and well Accourred with ali ·matters fit for Vlfar. This news poífeífed the rninds of the Spaniards with an apprehen!ion of ie~lou!ie, that thefe people carne to difpoífefs tl]em of the Riches <yJd Wealfü which they had gained; for fuch is the condition of humane nature, which can never be enrirely happy, or ·profperous withemt fome mixtures ofallay. Where- fore the .Governour fent his companion Almagro with a hundred Spaniar:ds to pre- yent che mifchief which might happen; and fo to defend the Sea-coafr, as to ob- íl:mét their Landing, or, otherwife to corrupt the Army by certain infinuations · and promi(es, ~lluring them to abandon the de!ign of their own Leader,. and join· with them in an encerpriie which was already' profperous, and brought to rnatu- rity. Almagro aéted according to thefe Infüuétions, but the fuccefs thereof we (hall declare a.fterwards, being obliged fir.íl : to recount other irnportant rnatters whi~h were traníaéted at that time ; for we muíl: know, that foon after the de-·: parmre of Almagro, Francifco de' Chaves, and bis Companions, arrived at Coz,co; gi- v'ing an accounr unto the Governour, and the other Spaniards of the civil and ge- nerolis rreatment which he had received from Titu At-auchi, and his Captains, fpe- cifying che Care, the Emertainmems, and the Prefents befiowed on them, 1 as alfo che A~tendance and Accommodation which had been afforded them for their, Journey_; and alfo the Articles which they had entr:ed intG, in behalf of the spa- ~iards with the Indians ; and, in fine, they related the méthods of Jufüce which had been executéd on Cuellar with the formalities of thé Cryer and Executioner.
