And in regard tha~ Hiílorians do not memion whether the Gold was fine, as they do thát the Silver was refin~d and purified, ~e !hall fuppofe that the Gold was worth twenty two ~ilats and an half, as in the Stan- dard in Peru 1 and not twenty four Q!!ilats, as in Spain, · for then \.Ve íhould add ro the whole value of the Gold 218)00 Ducats, which arifes on che Qg_ilat andan half of Advance; but becaufe the Spanifh Writers do not mention that difference; we íhall likewife leave it out in this Account, leíl: we íhould feem to inferr any thing without good Authority. As to the Silver, there is RO other difference rhan of twenty per cent. between the Piece of Eight and the Ducat.
